Play. Learn. Grow.

Free toy lending for children from birth to age five

About Us

How it Started

Play. Something so simple yet so critical for a child’s healthy development.

2012- The need: several families in the downtown area of Sioux Falls didn’t have toys for their kids to play and learn. That’s how kids learn from zero to five years old- through play. Soroptimist International of Sioux Falls became aware of this need and decided to open a free Toy Lending Library for children from birth to five years old.

February 2015- started pilot project with the Downtown Library (25 boxes of toys)
June 18th 2015- opened doors at Kilian Community College
May 2016 until today- moved with Health Connect of South Dakota and share their space.
May 2018 started a new partnership with REACH Literacy! Visit their place to borrow boxes of toys!-2101 W 41st St, Suite 203 Sioux Falls, SD

2018- over 300 boxes of toys are circulating in all Siouxland Libraries in Sioux Falls (Downtown, Ronning, Caille, Oak View, Prairie West), Brandon, Garretson, Valley Springs, from our office and from REACH Literacy.

2017 circulation: 1567 boxes!

Our mission: create opportunities for children zero to five years old to enhance their learning development through play.

How it Works

Boxes of toys, color coded by age group are available to check out at the Siouxland Libraries in Sioux Falls, Garretson, Brandon and from our office at 2011 West 26th Street, Suite 203 Sioux Falls, SD.

Free to everyone, our process is simple: at the Siouxland Libraries use your library card to borrow the boxes of toys. At our location you can check our a box by using an ID and contact information. Boxes can be kept for 3 weeks. Once the box is returned, caregivers can borrow more boxes.

The boxes have pictures of the toys to help caregivers to put them back to return.

We understand that loosing pieces and accidentally breaking toys are part of play. We do our best to replace the pieces and the toys.

After boxes are returned, the box, the toys and the books are inspected for missing pieces, broken parts and integrity of the book. They are then taken for cleaning and sanitizing before they go back to the shelves.

To learn more about our boxes, explore our gallery and discover the play opportunities that await your child.
